Compeo+

Function Overview

  • Total integrated flight instrument with 16 channel GPS receiver.
  • Robust ABS housing, aerodynamic with soft edges.
  • Internal NiMh batteries providing more than 25 hours of usage with GPS receiver on a 1 second update rate. Longer update rates will increase usable operating time. Batteries are quick charge types without memory effect. Can be charged from 110/220V AC power outlet or directly from a vehicle cigarette lighter outlet.
  • The large display (60mm x 80mm) is a high contrast LCD graphic type with (resolution of 320 x 240 pixel = 1/4 VGA)
  • The display offers a wide range of analogue and digital readings and the pilot may adjust the displayed data to his own preferences. There are 3 pages of 6 user fields where the pilot may choose the desired data from the following list:
    • Wind speed
    • Calculated airspeed
    • Time
    • Flight time
    • Speed over ground
    • Diff. speed between TAS and groundspeed
    • Altitude over destination
    • Altitude over best glide line to destination
    • Altitude above best glide line around the course
    • Distance to destination
    • Distance to take-off
    • Bearing
    • Track
    • Temperature
    • A2 (QFE)
    • A3 (cumulated altitude)
    • HPa/inHg
    • L/D Ratio (through air, over ground, to waypoint)
  • Voltage and remaining battery time is continually displayed
  • Automatic und manual volume control
  • Memory for 200 waypoints
  • Memory for 20 routes up to 30 waypoints
  • Input of different cylinder radii for a competition route
  • Automatic alarm und switching over to the next WP when crossing the circumference of the actual WP (competition route only)
  • IGC track log for world records and OLC
  • Display of distance and direction to last thermal
  • Extensive control over audio functions
  • Graphical and audio McCready speed-to-fly
  • PC-program FlyChart allows easy set-up functions as well as down- and uploads of waypoints, routes and flight tracks.
  • Real time map display with track, current heading, route, waypoint names and cylinders shown, with Zoom In - Zoom Out function.

Display layout

Two formats are available vertical bar (shown left) and round dial (shown above).

  1. GPS-Status
Shows strength of signal and the number of satellites tracked
  2. Battery-Status
Shows battery voltage and the remaining estimated operating time in hours.
  3. Analog Vario
Shows analog vario in 20 ft/min resolution up to 2000ft/min.
  4. Digital Vario
Shows vertical speed in large number. Different averaging modes and nekton is user selectable. .
  5. Thermal Averager
Shows the 5-10 min. (user selectable) average vario value. Used for McCready optimized flying.
  6. McCready Pointer
McCready pointer shows the speed ring setting that you are flying. If the arrow is positioned (by modifying the speed) on 0, you are flying at best glide. For fastest course time adjust your speed so the the McCready arrow aligns with the position of the thermal averager.
  7. User Selectable Fields
The pilot may select the data to be shown in these 6 fields from an extensive list of flight specific data.
  8. Soft Keys
Soft keys provide event driven user inputs. As an example, during flight, within a route you can select the previous or the next waypoint of the route.
  9. Wind Direction
Inside the compass the calculated wind direction is shown graphically with a wind sock indicator.
  10. Track
The moving compass circle shows the actual heading (track) graphically.
  11. Analog speed
User selectable scaling is provided for analog speed indication. If the range is exhausted, the scaling and the display indication is doubled.
  12. Altitude
Altitude is shown in large numbers. Resolution is 3 feet up to 30,000 ft.
  13. Speed for best glide
This arrow indicates the speed for best McCready glide.
  14. Bearing
Shows graphically the direction to steer towards the active waypoint.
  15. Direction of last thermal
Shows the direction to the last thermal stronger than user selectable threshold.
  16. Waypoint name
The actual waypoint name is displayed. A waypoint name may consist up to 15 characters.
  17. Info Line
This line displays event driven error or info messages to the pilot. Examples may be: FAI-SECTOR passed, LOW BATTERY, NO GPS, etc.
  18. Digital Speed
Actual speed is displayed in large letters in 1 mph resolution.

Data logging

  • Easy task copy from PC to Compeo
  • There is no need for taking photos FAI/IGC approved for paragliders and hang gliders.
  • Automatic 1 sec. record rate when inside turnpoint cylinder with acoustic and visual pilot notification. Outside cylinder record rates can be adjusted between 1 to 60s. Up to 96 hours of FAI/IGC flights can be documented. As a minimum, the following items are stored: longitude, latitude, altitude (pressure + GPS based), true airspeed, speed over the ground, wind direction, event marker.
  • Easy transfer to PC after landing. Data in the PC is stored in the approved IGC-file format.

For further information concerning FAI/IFC and GPS logger visit the page: www.fai.org/gliding/gnss

In addition to FAI-logging, Compeo provides all of the features now standard in the Br”uniger IQ-COMP/GPS series, and much more.
